Screen Printing

Screen printing also known as (silk screening) is a method used for printing an image on a shirt.  A thin mesh (mostly made from polyester) is stretched tightly over a frame. Emulsion is then applied to the screen and a negative film of the image is placed and burned into the screen. In other words, it’s like giving the screen a suntan line of the image. The emulsion that is exposed to the UV light gets hardened while the Emulsion that is covered by the negative film stays wet which at the appropriate time gets washed out and leaves you with a stencil of your image. The screen is then set on a shirt and once set correctly, ink is rolled over the screen, only the areas where the design has no emulsion allows ink to slip through. The ink then sets on the t-shirt and is put aside to cure and dry. While this is just the jist of screen printing, there is a lot more that is not mentioned that goes into the process!
